God’s Patience for Your New Season - Your Nightly Prayer - August 7
God’s Patience for Your New Season
Your Nightly Prayer
TONIGHT'S SCRIPTURE
Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience (Colossians 3:12).
SOMETHING TO PONDER
Most of us like to be chosen, whether it is being invited to a wedding, selected for an award, or singled out for an achievement. It makes us feel special. The opening of this verse reminds us of a breathtaking reality: as fallen people, we have been chosen by God. Along with this incredible privilege comes a profound identity—we are holy and dearly loved. Let that truth sit quietly with you tonight. Let it bring deep peace and joy to your soul as you rest in your position as His child.
Therefore, we are told to "clothe” ourselves. Picture this for a moment. Most of us love the feeling of putting on new clothes. They refresh our appearance, boost our confidence, and mark a clean start. We step out feeling entirely new.
Yet, this verse brings a daily responsibility. Because we are holy and dearly loved, we are called to actively change our spiritual wardrobe. God asks us to strip off the old, tattered garments of anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language.
Notice how many of those old garments are tied directly to our words and reactions. They are the unfiltered expressions of our raw emotions. But as you step into this new season—whether it’s a new job, a shifting marriage, or a changing family dynamic—God wants to reshape how you respond to the circumstances around you.
Through His Spirit, you are being invited to put on a new uniform: compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. This is a picture of emotional maturity and restraint. It means choosing a soft answer over a sharp one, extending forgiveness rather than holding a grudge, and choosing patience rather than creating a problem. Tonight, as you prepare for sleep, ask God to take the measuring tape of His grace and begin tailoring these new responses in your heart, preparing you to walk beautifully clothed into tomorrow's new season.
YOUR NIGHTLY PRAYER
Lord God, may I never lose the wonder of being chosen by You. Thank You that through the giving of Your Son’s life, I am made holy. Thank You for Your amazing love for me. As I step into a new season, fill me with the attributes that show I am Your child—compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. May my appearance be like new clothes, evidence to those around me of who You are, and who I am from the inside out.
I take off the garments of hurry, worry, anger, and the urge to react in frustration tonight. Wash away my sharp words and defensive habits, as I lay them at your feet. Renew me with Your Spirit. Refresh my soul. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
