Trusting God on the Road Ahead
Your Nightly Prayer

TONIGHT’S SCRIPTURE

"Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, 'This is the way; walk in it.'” - Isaiah 30:21

SOMETHING TO PONDER

We all look for direction. We wonder what’s next for us, whether in the short or long term. Amid a host of uncertainties, we seek some promise or hope for the future. Each choice seems to have pitfalls, risks, and potential rewards. But which will it be? We seek guarantees and find none. Especially in our social media-dominated world, we have no shortage of people willing to give advice. “Influencers” claiming to be experts in one way or another. It’s good to seek wisdom, but it can be difficult to discern what voices to listen to.

Fortunately, God doesn’t leave us in this uncertain state. He speaks to us through the Scripture and the Spirit. The God who loves us enough to die for our eternal good also knows all things and orders all things. And he speaks to us. Isaiah reminds us of this in the verse above. No matter where we are, where we go, God guides us on the right path. We might see uncertainty, but God knows what way is best. The Bible instructs us in this way. Scripture reveals the epic story from Genesis to Revelation, showing us how God will order all things for good for those who love and follow him (Romans 8:38).

Thank God for the gift to hear the Lord’s voice. Jesus, as the Good Shepherd, declares how his “sheep” know him and can hear his voice (John 10:27). Through his voice, he shares the way to walk in for our good and his glory. Further, Jesus himself is the way (John 14:6). His life and being reveal to us how to best live and act.

Therefore, when we face uncertainty on the path ahead, we must choose to engage with Christ, to hear his voice, and to look to him for guidance. Knowing his love and care for us, we find security and surety within him.

YOUR NIGHTLY PRAYER

Heavenly Father,
Thank you for speaking through your Word and Spirit when uncertainty surrounds me. Help me recognize your voice above the noise of the world, and help me follow you with trust and obedience. Lead me on the right path when I can’t see a sure way ahead. Jesus, my Good Shepherd, guide me with your truth and life. Fill me with confidence in your love, care, and wisdom.

Amen.
