Welcoming Christ into Our Chaos
Your Nightly Prayer
By Angie Grant
TONIGHT'S SCRIPTURE
"The Lord gives his people strength. The Lord blesses them with peace." - Psalm 29:11
SOMETHING TO PONDER
I don't know about you, but chaos on the outside produces chaos on the inside! When life moves at the speed of light, it feels as if there is no control and no order! Our to-do list becomes our driving force, with little time for reflection or meaning. Our lives begin to get out of alignment with the way God ever intended them to be. And here we find ourselves, too busy for peace! All the while, it has been our greatest desire! How do we move from being in overload—mentally, spiritually, and emotionally? —That is the question!
Not long ago, while driving my car, it began pulling hard to the right! I could still drive it, but not without continuously correcting the turn. It wasn't smooth- I did this for over a week! I began to think about the damage I must have been doing by not taking it into the shop for an alignment. I was causing strain and damage. The car wasn't meant to fight itself to stay on course!
Peace in our lives works much this way. When we are spiritually out of alignment —meaning our hearts, our minds, and even our actions aren't centered on who God is — we begin to feel the tension of life. We begin to drift- maybe towards worry or fear. We overcorrect by trying to control every moment of our day, which leaves us frustrated. And more than anything, we feel the wear and tear of trying to hold it all together, all the while, it's unraveling! No wonder —it's all because we are trying to do it all on our own.
Psalm 29:11 reminds us that it is God who gives us strength- not us! He wants to bless us with His peace. Peace isn't just the absence of chaos —it's the presence of something far greater: wholeness, order, and, more importantly, trust. Chaos often creates reactivity- and peace begins when we slow down our response. When we take a breath and pray, we let the Holy Spirit guide our next step rather than react with fear and frustration. There is no doubt that there is so much to be done throughout the holidays, but the peace that God wants to give us flows directly from our freely connecting to Jesus.
The deeper we are rooted in Him, the calmer the chaos around us and within us becomes. So, if you find yourself needing an alignment, pause from the constant motion, let God shine his spotlight on your heart, and allow His Spirit to make the adjustments that better help us realign our perspectives, restore balance, and center us in His peace.
YOUR NIGHTLY PRAYER
God,
Help me tonight, take a breath. Allow me now to feel and sense your presence and your peace. The kind of peace that strengthens my journey and helps me realize I was never meant to do it alone. Help me realign my path so that you are at the center —in Jesus' name,
Amen.
THREE THINGS TO MEDITATE ON
1. What areas of my life need alignment?
2. What have I been trying to take into my own hands that I need to relinquish to you?
3. How can I stay in step with your peace?
Reflect on tonight’s prayer and share how God met you there. Join the Your Nightly Prayer discussion on the Crosswalk Forum.
