Your Nightly Prayer

What If You Were Made for This Exact Moment?
by Michelle Treacy

TONIGHT’S SCRIPTURE

“For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place, but you and your father's family will perish. And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?” - Esther 4:14

SOMETHING TO PONDER

You wouldn’t need to be around a church long to know the last piece of this verse. It’s a frequently quoted verse, and most people simply say, “What if I am here for such a time as this?”.

But, friend, the truth of this verse is so much deeper than just these few words. Esther is a beautiful book that holds within the powerful story of a girl named Esther, her uncle Mordecai, and a man named Haman. Mordecai was Esther's foster father and her uncle; they were both Jews. Haman was a Persian and was in authority over the kingdom alongside the king.

Haman did not like Mordecai, and so in response to his own hatred, he decided that genocide was his best option. The king, due to his own ignorance and disinterest, was tricked into a law that was designed to kill all the Jews in Persia. However, it is here in the midst of calamity that Mordecai comes to Esther and says the above words. He calls on her to protect her family, her people, and her nation. But he also reminds her that even if she remained silent, relief would come from another place. In essence, he was telling her that she had a choice: she could partner with God, or God would find someone else to partner with.

I suppose as I read those words, I wonder to myself what injustice God wants to partner with me in seeing changed?

Why am I here?

What does my timing on earth coincide with?

I do not for one second believe God needs me, He is all powerful, all knowing, almighty! But he loves to partner with his people.

So tonight, as you lay your head down, maybe consider what is it that you could partner with God in seeing change in? What is it you could see God change upfront, not hearing it from a testimony of another, but actually see God do?

What is it that you and God could see an end to?

I know these nightly prayers are designed to help us sleep, but what if our souls need a nudge? Tonight, as you dream, I pray God opens your eyes and your soul to what could be!

YOUR NIGHTLY PRAYER

Father God,
When I am lost and angry at the things that go on in my world, remind me that I am your child, and the same power that raised you from the dead lives in me. Remind me that I am alive, and I am here and well for this time, in this season, to partner with you God in seeing justice reign, in seeing a little of heaven on earth.
Father, help me to be brave, to step out, and to impact the world.
Jesus, help me to be compassionate like you, bold like you, and to see people for who they are.
Holy Spirit, as I rest my head, would you open the eyes of my heart and give me dreams, holy dreams, and help me to see the next step you would want me to take.
In Jesus' name,
Amen.

THREE THINGS TO MEDITATE UPON

1. Sometimes our hard seasons are learning seasons. I do not believe God brings bad things. But I believe He is a good God, but I do believe that in those seasons of hard days we can learn something to help someone else when they find themselves in similar circumstances.

2. What if you are called to be a person who stands for justice and stands in the gap for the oppressed? What if the niggling that you know in your spirit that won’t let you sleep, is a captured passion awaiting its release to fight for justice.

3. Friend, what if we dreamed a little? What if we sought the holy things of God? What would our lives look like? Better yet, what would the lives of those around us look like?
