A Prayer for Graduates Moving Far from Home

As the page turns into a new chapter for graduates, they are met with anticipation of what is to come. Many of these graduates will be moving far from home to start the next stage of their lives, and though they may not admit it readily, they need our prayers. Let's join together to pray for these graduates.
A Prayer to Stay Rooted in the Lord
Dear Lord,
We know that the most important decision anyone will ever make isn't what college to go to, what career to choose, or even who to marry. It is to wholly accept Christ as Lord and Savior. Lord, we pray earnestly for graduates to stay rooted in their faith. We pray over them that they would be the seeds mentioned in Matthew 13:23, "But the seed falling on good soil refers to someone who hears the word and understands it. This is the one who produces a crop, yielding a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown." May they find more than ever before the value of a relationship with You, and richly seek to pursue You in all things. We pray that even if they stand alone, they will stand planted in You and Your Word.
In Jesus Name, we pray,
Amen
A Prayer for a Good Church
Dear Lord,
A good church community can take time to find, especially when you are unfamiliar with an area, but we pray that these young men and women would feel led by Your Spirit as to where to attend worship services each week. We pray that they would feel convicted that a good church is not one where the building is elaborate with grand events, but that they would know what matters most is a body rooted in the Bible. Please help them discern where they are to attend and where they can bless others for the Kingdom by sharing in the joy of fellowship.
In Jesus Name, we pray,
Amen
A Prayer for Godly Friends
Dear Lord,
We lift up graduates, especially those moving far from home, to make meaningful connections with believers who pursue You, love You, and are living their lives for You. Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 highlights to us the gift of a good friend, "Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up." We pray for the person or people You have to bring alongside. Proverbs 27:17 reminds us of the value of godly friends in sharing, "As iron sharpens iron, so a man sharpens the countenance of his friend." Lord, we pray for Your children to find each other so that they may sharpen and encourage one another in the Lord. We pray that they may cultivate abundant community among one another.
In Jesus Name, we pray,
Amen
A Prayer for Wisdom
Dear Lord,
We pray for wisdom and good discernment over graduates. Wisdom is one of the greatest things we can pray over a person; from it emerges goodness, truth, and beauty. We recall the words and pray them now of James 1:5, "If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you." Lord, we pray that You would give wisdom to these graduates, and we pray as well that they would most predominately indwell of the heart of Proverbs 4:7, "The beginning of wisdom is the fear of the Lord; those who have wisdom will not despise it." May they fear You, oh Lord, and may they seek You in every and all decisions, desires, and deeds.
In Jesus Name, we pray,
Amen
A Prayer for Safety
Dear God,
We pray for the safety of these dear people we love so much. Especially when they move great distances, there is a temptation to fall into worry for their safety and well-being. It is difficult when we are no longer "right around the corner" to help assist, but we know You are closer than their next breath. Lord, we pray for peace in our hearts during this transition and for protection over our loved ones. We pray the words of Psalm 91:9-12, "Because you have made the LORD your dwelling—my refuge, the Most High—no evil will befall you, no plague will approach your tent. For He will command His angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways. They will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone."
Lord, we pray for Your protection over them today and always.
In Jesus Name, we pray,
Amen
A Prayer for Continued Fellowship Back Home
Dear God,
Long-distance relationships can be difficult to retain, but it is possible, especially when such people are connected through the Lord. We pray for the graduates moving great distances that they will make a conscious effort to keep up with and foster relationships back home. Please give them the desire to create new bonds in their new surroundings, but also help them remember those who have walked with them for so long. We are so very grateful for the gift of technology and how it can make even other sides of the world feel less far away, but we know so much of that comes from the heart's commitment to water those established trees of life. Thank You, Lord, for the gift and privilege to continue in these relationships from season to season.
In Jesus Name, we pray,
Amen
A Prayer for Energy
Dear God,
Lastly, we pray for the energy and stamina of these graduates. Change of any kind can be taxing on a person, and when they are expected to approach unfamiliar tasks, unknown terrain, and unforeseen circumstances, it can prove exhausting. Lord, we pray the words of Isaiah 40:29-31, "He gives power to the faint and increases the strength of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall.
But those who wait upon the LORD will renew their strength; they will mount up with wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary,
they will walk and not faint." Lord, please renew their strength, faith, joy, and rooting. May You be their fuel each and every day.
In Jesus Name, we pray,
Amen
A Prayer for the Person Praying
Dear Lord,
I pray that the person praying today would intentionally try to pray for the recent graduate in their life—a person entering what awaits them next. Even if the person praying cannot see or talk to them every day, God can. May they be reminded and prompted to pray for the graduate's faith to be established and vibrant in Him, and pray that they (the graduate) may fulfill all God has called them to do for His Kingdom by His Spirit.
In Jesus Name, we pray,
Amen
