5 Powerful Prayers for Breast Cancer

5 Powerful Prayers for Breast Cancer

Breast cancer affects thousands of women every year. According to the American Cancer Society, it accounts for about 1/3 of all cancers diagnosed in women. As the numbers increase, so does the fear of the diagnosis. One of the most powerful weapons we have to fight breast cancer is prayer. God has a special place in his heart for those fighting this disease and so breast cancer prayer delights His heart.

While great strides have been made in the realm of breast cancer it still strikes terror in the hearts of women. When faced with the diagnosis it feels surreal to the woman who falls victim. The journey is long and hard. A woman’s breasts are such a precious gift to womanhood, that when breast cancer is diagnosed, it feels deeply personal and emotional. Often the most effective treatment is invasive. Every woman handles the diagnosis differently yet, most experience fear and grief. Questions pummel their thinking, “How far has it spread? What will I look like after treatment?” As well as “Will I be alive in a few years?”

When we consider how to offer a breast cancer prayer, it’s wise to combine Scripture in our prayers. The power of praying Scripture is huge! The women battling this silent monster need prayer for physical, emotional, and spiritual healing. All three are affected by breast cancer.

A Breast Cancer Prayer for Physical Healing

Lord Jesus, Holy Healer, I praise you that you understand how every cell is interacting with every other cell in my body (Or my loved one’s body). Thank you that you are the mighty creator. Though you are not the author of cancer you understand what’s happening in my body. Thank you that breast cancer doesn’t catch you off guard. Holy Healer, touch my (or someone else’s) body. Lord Jesus, when the woman who had been hemorrhaging for twelve years merely touched your robe, she was instantly healed. I know that healing of this cancer could happen with just one touch of your hand. However, I also know that you can use medicine and medical treatments to heal. I pray Lord Jesus, that you, the Great Physician, would give the doctors and surgeons wisdom. You are the God of all wisdom, like the Apostle Paul wrote, “Oh the depths of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God.” You promise to give wisdom to those who ask. May the Doctors ask you for wisdom as they decide on the most effective treatments for my (or another name) cancer. (Based on Colossians 1:16, Matthew 9:20-22, Romans 11:33, James 1:5).

A Breast Cancer Prayer for Emotional Healing

Oh Father, the emotional trauma from being diagnosed with breast cancer is horrific. Lord, help me to remember the words of the Psalmist, “God is our refuge and strength and ever-present help in trouble therefore we will not fear.” Holy One, I confess, I have felt fear as I consider the different options as far as treatment. I find my mind going in a thousand different directions with anxiety. Calm my anxious heart, I pray. The Lord Himself, will be my light and salvation. Remind me that I don’t need to be afraid. When I face invasive treatments such as surgeries or chemotherapy, help me to be courageous, even as I face the changes in how I look physically. Holy One, I praise you that my body is your sanctuary and that every scar from cancer will someday represent battles I have victoriously fought through you. Thank you, that you are redeeming even my cancer story to use it for my good and your glory. When I feel exhausted, I ask you for the strength to rest. When the treatments become depressing, I ask you to rekindle my hope. When the journey feels long and hard, I ask you for resiliency. When I feel afraid, I ask you for courage. Father, during this battle, take me deeper into what it means to trust you and not lean on my own understanding. Help me to rest in your goodness, trusting that the best is yet to come (Based on Psalm 46:1, Psalm 27 Proverbs 3:5).

Prayer for the Loved Ones of Those Battling Breast Cancer

Holy One, I feel so helpless to walk alongside ____________________ (put in loved one’s name). You have called me to comfort others. How can I bring comfort and courage when I feel anxious and fearful myself? Father, I pray that you will fill me with your Holy Spirit. Fill me with wisdom and peace as I seek to be an encouragement. Remind me to be careful how I listen. Help me to be authentic with my emotions while still being a strengthening presence for _____________________ (put in name). Show me how to free up my schedule so that I can offer my unhurried presence when she needs a listening ear. Give me words of encouragement when she feels despair. Help me to be practical in my expressions of love. Lord, your word teaches us to carry each other’s burdens. I pray for wisdom for how to best comfort. Thank you, that through this dark road I can continually come to you in prayer. I can carry my precious ____________ (put in name of loved one or friend) before your throne daily. I praise you for the privilege of prayer. May I be a conduit of your love during this time (Based on Isaiah 40:1, Luke 8:18, Galatians 6:2).

Prayer for the Cure of Breast Cancer

Oh, Father, my heart staggers as I consider how many women each year are diagnosed with breast cancer! Father, I pray that you would give scientists the wisdom and knowledge to find a cure. I pray that you would give doctors insight into the best methods of treatment. Lord Jesus, I know your heart for women. Whether with the woman at the well, or the woman who had been hemorrhaging for twelve years, you demonstrated your empathy and love for women. Father, You see every frightened woman, every woman dealing with the grief of losing her breasts to cancer, and you weep with her as you did with Mary and Martha at Lazarus’s tomb. Thank you that you are a God who feels and sympathizes with us in our weakness. You weep with us when we weep and you bend down to listen when we cry. I praise you that you are a God who sympathizes with us in every area of life. Holy One, I ask you in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, that you would help scientists to find a cure for breast cancer so that women won’t have to suffer. Thank you for the strides that have been made over the past few years and for all the new treatments available (Based on John 11:35, Hebrews 4:15, Psalm 116:2 NLT).

These scriptural prayers are very personal for me as I am a breast cancer survivor. I know the power of praying scripture over my body, soul, and spirit. I encourage you, if you are battling breast cancer or if a loved one is battling breast cancer, to unleash the power of scriptural breast cancer prayer. God is a God who listens! As we pray, He promises to answer and to encourage us in the journey.
