12 Bible Verses to Encourage You to Lean on God for Strength

Have you been feeling weak lately? Do you need a reminder that God is Your strength? Whether it is a season of hardship, a time of busyness, or a personal temptation you are trying to overcome, God meets us wherever we are in life. Throughout the Bible we are affirmed of the truth that we can lean on Him. No matter how strong we feel or how feeble we may be, Jesus is always waiting for us to come to Him.

Today, we will go through Bible verses that encourage us about God as our strength.

“The LORD is my strength and my defense; he has become my salvation. He is my God, and I will praise him, my fathers God, and I will exalt him” (Exodus 15:2).

Before we get anywhere else, we can rest in the fact that God is our Salvation. We have eternal strength because Jesus came and took away our sins when we believe in His sacrifice.

“The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and he helps me. My heart leaps for joy, and with my song I praise him” (Psalm 28:7).

Not only is God our strength (offensive), He is also our shield (defensive). We are protected from every angle by the Lord. His faithful help is always there. This leads us to joy and worship of His greatness. We do not have to worry about being weak or weary, it is not about what we offer, but what Jesus gives to us.

“Look to the LORD and his strength; seek his face always” (1 Chronicles 16:11).

It is one thing to know that God is our strength, but we need to seek Him daily as our strength. It is easy in our sinful minds to forget or neglect going to Him as our Source.

In the day when I cried out, You answered me, and made me bold with strength in my soul” (Psalm 138:3).

Are you having a hard time? Are your tears flowing and your hopes crushed? God knows that as we go through life, there are going to be difficulties and heartbreak. Jesus has experienced all that we have, being 100% man and 100% God. He is compassionate and understanding of our hurts. He hears us, He answers us, and He gives us boldness and strength in the soul.

“I will love You, O LORD, my strength. The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold” (Psalm 18:1-2).

When we think about the strength of a rock, we know that it is hard and tough. Large mountains, boulder, or canyons give us an idea of the power and might of our God. As amazing as these creations are, He is more. He is our rock, our fortress and deliverer. He is our strength and shield. We can know and feel secure in the safety of our Lord.

But You, O LORD, do not be far from Me; O My Strength, hasten to help Me!” (Psalm 22:19).

Sometimes we are in a quick moment, and we just need to remember to call on the Lord for help. He is not far from us; He is right there fighting for us.

“Then he said to them, Go your way, eat the fat, drink the sweet, and send portions to those for whom nothing is prepared; for this day is holy to our Lord. Do not sorrow, for the joy of the LORD is your strength’” (Nehemiah 8:10).

Because God is our strength, we can have fullness of joy. In fact, He turns our sorrow into joy. He tells us to celebrate and receive His goodness knowing that He is the One whom we rely on.

The LORD God is my strength; He will make my feet like deers feet, and He will make me walk on my high hills” (Habakkuk 3:19).

God gives us stability and safety in trying times. Even when life around us appears to be dangerous or challenging, in the Lord’s strength, we can gracefully walk through.

That He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man” (Ephesians 3:16).

God gives us His Holy Spirit to be strong and mighty for us. His Spirit enables us to accomplish more than we ever could on our own.

“Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand” (Isaiah 41:10).

We do not have to be afraid or concerned when we have Christ. Our Lord is holding us up and helping us in all things. What a promise!

“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might” (Ephesians 6:10).

Before listing the armor of God, the apostle Paul shares in this verse in Ephesians to be strong in the Lord. We do this by the Holy Spirit and putting on the armor of God daily. Sometimes we forget that we have access to His power to fight and stand against the enemy. The Lord not only is strong, He enables us to be strong as well.

“My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever” (Psalm 73:26).

We all fall short and sin. We physically and emotionally fail. This is the struggle of being human. We are sinners and we need a Savior. However, because of Jesus, even though we miss His perfect standard, we have eternal security and salvation in Him forever. We do not have to fear eternity because He is our strong and resurrected Savior.
