How Does All Creation Glorify God?

This weekend, my husband and I will go and fulfill a lifelong dream of mine to pet and hold a baby deer. Although many people prefer to hunt and eat them, I love to watch and admire these graceful creatures.

So many people have questions about the existence of God. There are some beautiful Bible verses about looking around us at the creation of the Lord and learning from nature about His glory.

What the Animals Would Say

Job 12:7-10 - But ask the animals, and they will teach you, or the birds in the sky, and they will tell you; or speak to the earth, and it will teach you, or let the fish in the sea inform you. Which of all these does not know that the hand of the Lord has done this? In his hand is the life of every creature and the breath of all mankind.”

Although we do not understand what animals are saying, this verse in Job is intriguing, saying that if we were to communicate with them, they would tell us of the glory of the Lord. This means that birds are singing His praises, cheetahs are running for His glory, monkeys are climbing for His praise, and dolphins are swimming for His name. Not only are the animals worshipping their Creator by their existence, the earth can teach us about our Maker. Job shares that every animal created knows that it was made by God. He is the one who breathes life into all living things.

All Terrains

Psalm 95:3-5 - “For the Lord is the great God, the great King above all gods. In his hand are the depths of the earth, and the mountain peaks belong to him. The sea is his, for he made it, and his hands formed the dry land.”

Not only are the animals worshiping the Lord, but the terrain He has crafted so perfectly honors Him. This psalm points out that the grandest of mountains and the deepest of oceans are His. Even the dry desert lands are in His control. He is over all the earth. Each place glorifies Him with each unique beauty and structure.

The Skies and Universe

Isaiah 40:26 - “Lift up your eyes and look to the heavens: Who created all these? He who brings out the starry host one by one and calls forth each of them by name. Because of his great power and mighty strength, not one of them is missing.”

Isaiah brings up the point that when we look up and we see the skies above, in their vastness, we see the handprints of God. Whether this be a great rainstorm, a clear blue sky, or a full, vibrant rainbow, we see artistic beauty above. We read of the starry hosts that the Lord knows by name. Not one is missing.

My husband loves to look through his telescope and stand amazed at outer space. As we view the night sky with the constellations, the stars, the moon, and the planets, may it humble us in realizing how small we truly are in this great universe and how grand our Creator is over all. He is fully sovereign and reigning over everything, and we can find such rest in this.

The Fields and the Forests

Psalm 96:11 - “Let the heavens rejoice, let the earth be glad; let the sea resound, and all that is in it. Let the fields be jubilant, and everything in them; let all the trees of the forest sing for joy.”

I love that this verse welcomes the heavens, earth, seas, and everything in it to glorify God. It then gets specific about the fields and the forests. Maybe you live in the country or in a wooded area. We can see the uniqueness of our Maker in these areas as well. Whether in the tall grass swaying in the wind or the trees standing tall, when we slow down and look around, we can embrace the messages that the Lord is sharing through nature. He is the glorious One, He meets us everywhere, He is with us always.

You

Psalm 139:13-14 - “For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mothers womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.”

When is the last time that you looked in a mirror and praised the Lord? Not in a conceited or prideful way, but in a genuine way of acknowledging that He knit you together in your mother’s womb and now you are a grown person. You have your own DNA, a special personality, unique skills and interests. You are not an accident; you were planned and formed by the Creator on purpose and for a purpose.

As we admire His creativity through all the variety of people on this earth, we give Him glory. As we watch children reach new milestones, there are celebrations. As we listen to the wisdom of beautiful elderly people, we praise Jesus. As we feel a baby move in a mother’s womb, we glorify God.

Without Excuse

Romans 1:20 – “For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities – his eternal power and divine nature – have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.”

This is a pretty serious verse. It tells us that we are without excuse in believing that there is a God because of all of His work around us in His power and in nature. He has revealed Himself clearly through His creation. When people try to push back or neglect including God and science, they are without excuse. They are neglecting the amazing truth that us and this world were formed so intentionally and are loved so deeply by our Maker. Not only this, because of our sinful condition, He came to us as a creation, fully God and fully man, and Jesus saved us by taking away our sins for those who accept Him.

As we admire the intricate and detailed nature around us, may it motivate us to worship our Lord further. May we take time to slow down, look around at what we see, listen to the sounds of creation, and personally thank and worship our great Creator.
