New Prayer App Encourages Christians to Take Time to Pray on Weekdays

Prayer on Sunday morning is something of a habit for those who go to church weekly. Taking the time to put the Lord first, worship Him in song, get some encouragement and wisdom through a Sunday sermon surrounded by friends and family, can leave a person inspired to take on a new week of challenges head-on. Then comes Monday morning, and it seems like each day that follows leaves a person feeling like a car tire with a slow leak.
Ajith Joseph refers to this common struggle as “six days between Sundays.” He has created a prayer app that’s designed to help Christians find strength for the day and hope for tomorrow as they make their way through each work week.
ThyWord prayer app launched on Ash Wednesday. When Christians pray out loud, it listens and provides them with a Scripture that connects to what they’re facing as a way to help bring comfort and peace. It can even be used as a way to pray Scripture directly into whatever situation a person is going through, or as a way to intercede for loved ones and friends.
“My grandmother prayed every day of her life,” Joseph told Christian News Wire. “She used to tell our family that at least one person should spend time in God’s presence every single day. That stayed with me across every move, every career change, every season of life. But I could never figure out how to live up to it. Not consistently. Not with four kids and a demanding career. ThyWord is my answer to that.”
Joseph went on to note that he believes it’s not unusual for Christians to feel great on the weekend and then struggle through the work week.
In fact, a poll conducted by Premier Christianity found that only 38 percent of Christians pray regularly, compared to 52 percent of other faith groups. People tend to make prayer something complicated, when in all reality, it’s a part of having a relationship with the Lord, and can be expressed conversationally, anywhere, anytime, from driving in the car to working around the yard to hanging out in the living room. He’s a constant companion (Proverbs 18:24, John 14:16), so He’s always ready to listen.
“We feel connected at church, and then Monday comes, and we are right back in the noise of everyday life,” Joseph said.
The idea for the app came about because of his own struggle in that area. He created the app to be nondenominational in nature, and it can be used by either individuals or as part of a church initiative to encourage entire congregations to be more regular in their prayer life, according to the website.
