Netflix's ‘Death of the Pastor’s Wife’ Renews Questions About Mica Miller’s Death as Protesters Demand Answers
True crime has gained massive popularity in recent years, with many television series, documentaries and podcasts drawing large audiences. However, one recent Netflix release, "Death of the Pastor's Wife," has not only earned huge viewership numbers but also prompted some to ask questions and even take further action.
Since its global release on Aug. 26, 2026, "Death of the Pastor’s Wife" has received more than 19 million views. While some have applauded the film, others have been appalled by its presentation. From shock and disgust to protests, outrage and scrutiny, the Netflix original documentary has sparked wide-ranging discussion among Christians and non-Christians alike.
Following the life of Mica Miller, the documentary episodes reveal explosive secrets, love and abuse. In three episodes, the series relives and unveils a chronicle of the events leading up to Mica Miller's sudden and mysterious death and the fight for answers that continues today.
At just 30 years old, the wife of Myrtle Beach pastor John-Paul Miller was found dead at Lumber River State Park in North Carolina on April 27, 2024. What appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound, however, has caused much suspicion and questioning. Just days before her death, Mica had filed for divorce. Friends and family reported that Mica had also expressed concern for her safety leading up to her death.
Though federal charges were made against John-Paul in December 2025, he pleaded not guilty. He was, however, charged with cyberstalking and making false statements to investigators. His federal trial is currently scheduled for October.
The case is now receiving attention, nevertheless, since the August release of the 3-part series. ABC News has confirmed that many protesters are now confronting the Mercy Church pastor since the release of the documentary series. With renewed questions in hand, many hope they will finally get answers.
“We just want the truth. We want justice for her. We just. We want there to be accountability,” said Melissa Caison, a protester.
When asked for additional information, Mercy Church did not respond to a request for a statement.
