Hannah Harper Sings 'At the Cross' to Win American Idol

What do string cheese, country tunes, and Jesus all have in common? You’d have to ask this year’s, 2026, American Idol Winner, Hannah Harper.
At just 25-years young, the stay-at-home mother of three boys from Missouri has taken the win for Season 24, leaving a lasting impact on the singing competition show. From powerhouse vocals to humble storytelling, Harper made her debut in the show by auditioning with her original song “String Cheese.” Inspired by the realities of motherhood, Harper has attempted to be an authentic and loving voice in an often fake and cruel industry.
“Some days I wanna cry, run away and hide/ But I’d worry about their еvery need/ And when I’m ovеrwhelmеd and touched out, Thеy come climbin’ up on the couch/ Sayin’, “Mama, can you open my string cheese?”/ And I smile because I know meetin’ their needs fills my soul/ And being their mama is who I’m meant to be,” Harper sang on the chorus of String Cheese.
Throughout Season 24, fans learned that Harper’s gift for music traces back to taking part in her family’s bluegrass gospel band. For 7 years, Harper and family pursued music full-time, living in a 40-foot-long bright red tour bus and taking their talent to the road. When Harper got married in 2016 and settled down with her own family, she decided to go back to her roots.
Delivering her final performance of the season with Chris Tomlin’s “At the Cross (Love Ran Red),” Harper later posted Jeremiah 29:11 on her IG feed. “I’m beyond thankful for the doors the Lord has opened and for the opportunity to walk this path,” said America’s newest country star. It’s been a wild, beautiful journey, but for Harper, “somehow we’re just getting started.”
