Kevin James Fasts to Hear the Lord

American Actor and Comedian Kevin James is known for his leading role in “The King of Queens”, “Paul Blart: Mall Cop,” and many other humor-filled films. What you might not know, however, is the role his journey to faith played.

Raised Catholic, James experienced a spiritual awakening through the 2004 film "The Passion of the Christ." As a fellow actor, he admired the reality of the set and the emotion of the characters. But more than that, he knew that what they were portraying was Gospel truth. However, it wasn’t until his daughter was severely struggling with autism that his faith reached new heights.

Deciding to fast for 40 days straight, James was determined to hear from God. His daughter wasn’t sleeping, so he turned to prayer and fasting. According to an X post, “On the very day he was about to quit from hunger, his daughter told him she’d finally slept well.”

James believed his prayers were being answered, so he continued the fast.

“I started doing it, and she wasn’t sleeping at all. I never meant to go this long. It was just one day at a time. After a few days, I was going to quit. I was so hungry. It wasn’t getting easier. But I decided to knock on my daughter’s door and see how she was doing. She said, “Are you still fasting? Because I got really good sleep last night.” It was insane. Hacky in a way.”
