Russell Wilson Makes Bold Declaration After NFL Retirement: ‘Jesus Is King’
Growing up in the small town of Richmond, Va., Super Bowl-winning quarterback Russel Wilson never thought he’d play in the NFL for 14 years. After all, many around him even said he couldn’t do it. As a Christian, however, Wilson knew what’s impossible for man is possible with God.
At just 37 years young, Wilson retired on June 3, 2026. Since his retirement, the Super Bowl champion has been seen sharing the Gospel and encouraging others in Christ and visiting the foot of Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro. Followers have noticed not just an increase in Wilson’s faith, but his public declaration of conviction.
“Christ is more than enough!” Wilson posted in the caption to a recent Instagram post that received more than 50,000 likes. Also, quoting Psalm 46:1 in the caption, the social media post shows Wilson meeting with fans, playing some football and talking about Jesus.
While this is the first year Wilson hasn’t played football since 2012, his fame seems to be spreading even more rapidly. Not for his wins, touchdown passes or anything else on the football field, but because of his willingness to share the Gospel at all costs:
“I don’t know what you’re facing. I don’t know what challenges mentally, emotionally, spiritually, physically, financially. Whatever you’re going through, the only one that can heal it all is Christ. So I love you all. Keep going. Keep believing. Remember He paid the ultimate, ultimate sacrifice. Jesus is King” (Christhlete).
As Relevant Magazine adds, “Wilson has been public about his faith for his entire career, so none of this is a departure. What’s different is the timing.”
While Wilson will no longer be playing on the field on Sundays, he will still remain close to the game. In early June, soon after his retirement from the National Football League became official, it was announced that he would join CBS Sports as an analyst on its wildly popular "The NFL Today" show.
