Trailer for Netflix’s ‘Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew’ Reveals Magical Adventures and First Glimpse at Aslan

The first trailer for one of the most highly anticipated films in recent memory has now officially been released.

Everyone is finally getting a look at Netflix’s upcoming Greta Gerwig-directed adaptation of “Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew.” It’s only seconds into the two-minute-and-40-second trailer when viewers are treated to their first glimpse of the magical wardrobe, which is accompanied by a voice-over narration that informs us that “sometimes one story is the beginning of all the others.”

In the following scene, we see Digory Kirke and Polly Plummer looking down upon Andrew Ketterley as they engage in a conversation about his mental state, with Polly asking if Mr. Ketterley is “really mad?” Digory responds that he has always been told that he’s a magician, and then, of course, the question is asked: "Do you believe in magic?”

The two characters then soon embark on a rollicking, fun-filled, magical adventure in which they discover that their world may not be the only one in existence. In fact, as Digory states, “there might be hundreds of worlds, even infinity worlds.”

In a somewhat unexpected move, while we see the two main characters going about their adventures, the trailer incorporated a classic rock song, Led Zeppelin’s “Stairway to Heaven,” according to Billboard.

Also, seconds before the trailer ends, viewers get a look at Aslan. Of course, Aslan, specifically, who will be voicing the much-beloved fictional character in the film, has been a point of much discussion and controversy, even before the trailer was released. Gerwig had previously announced that Academy Award winner Meryl Streep would be providing the voice for the character.

Many people reacted with shock and horror to this news, with some even calling Streep’s casting in the film blasphemy. However, while several were outraged and dismayed when this tidbit about the film was revealed, C.S. Lewis’ family released a statement saying they supported Gerwig’s upcoming adaptation of the Christian author’s work.

“From our ongoing conversations with [director] Greta Gerwig, we have personally witnessed her sincere passion for the Narnia series. Her life-long love of C.S. Lewis is apparent to everyone involved with this film.”

The statement went on to say that "We saw this enthusiasm during our visit to the set in London. We are thrilled to be working with such a talented and accomplished director and production team, and are keen to continue working with them on future projects.”

Fans and critics will have to wait a little while longer to see the entire film. It opens in theaters on Feb. 12, 2027, and then arrives on the streaming service in April next year.
