882 Baptized at Texas Church in 'Hurricane of Grace': 'Jesus Has Changed Everything'
A Texas pastor is testifying of changed lives and a “hurricane of grace” after nearly 900 people were baptized over the weekend at his church’s campuses —the latest chapter in a wave of mass baptisms sweeping across the United States.
Lakepointe Church in Rockwall, Texas, held a “Baptism Weekend” during its Saturday and Sunday services and experienced an outpouring of the Spirit, with 882 individuals baptized across its campuses—some preplanned, but countless others who decided that day to publicly declare their faith in Christ.
“Body tired, heart full, sweaty eyes,” pastor Josh Howerton wrote on X/Twitter.
The church’s Facebook page said the stories included people who had “walked through addiction, broken relationships, doubt, loss, success that still left them empty”—but who were now turning to Christ and publicly declaring their faith.
“And now, they’re standing in the water saying JESUS has changed everything, and HE IS WHO HE SAYS HE IS,” the church’s Facebook page said. “Never stop praying for one more to know Christ!”
Howerton detailed several of the stories behind the numbers. One couple, newlyweds Adrien and Jocelyn, were baptized the same day they were married. Another story involved three generations of a single family —children, parents and grandparents —all baptized and “bending their knee to Jesus Christ,” Howerton shared.
Still another involved a family with two autistic children who were baptized together — first the father and mother, followed by their two sons. A young couple, Blake and Jessica, were watching a service online when they became convicted and decided to drive an hour to the church to publicly profess their faith through baptism.
In another story, a man was listening to the service while mowing his lawn when he felt compelled to respond, prompting him to stop what he was doing and drive to the church to be baptized.
“Kite caught in a hurricane of grace,” Howerton wrote.
It was the latest in a series of mass baptisms at churches across the country this year.
Earlier this month, a North Carolina congregation that traces its roots to 1889 — Biltmore Church — baptized a record 458 people at an annual event at a local lake. In March, Bethlehem Church in Winder, Ga., saw 400 baptized in what the pastor called a spontaneous and powerful movement of the Holy Spirit.
