Alabama’s Germie Bernard Goes Viral for Praising Jesus after Crushing Loss

It’s common for athletes to thank God after a big win, but it’s less common to see them do so after a devastating loss.
But Alabama wide receiver Germie Bernard did just that last week, speaking up after the final question of a postgame news conference to reflect on his faith following his team’s season-ending 38–3 loss to Indiana in the College Football Playoff quarterfinals at the Rose Bowl.
The Crimson Tide trailed 17-0 at halftime and 24-3 entering the fourth on their way to a 35-point loss that marked the school’s largest margin of defeat since 1998.
Bernard, though, didn’t let the low moment prevent him from praising Jesus.
“I just want to give glory to my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ – just for allowing us to have this opportunity, for allowing this team to be here together in California, to enjoy this moment,” Bernard said at the podium alongside teammate Tim Keenan III and head coach Kalen DeBoer.
“Even though it didn't go the way we wanted, it's still a lot to be grateful for. You know, grateful for guys like TK [Keenan], he went through injury and was able to play throughout the season. So guys were able to play in this game that weren't healthy throughout the whole year, and we're able to walk off the field healthy. So it's just a lot to be grateful for – and I just want to give glory to Jesus Christ for this opportunity.”
“Thank God always,” Keenan added.
Video of the moment has gone viral on social media.
Before exiting the post-game press conference, Germie Bernard had one last thing he wanted to say:

Bernard, who declared for the NFL draft this week, finished the season with seven touchdowns and a team-leading 862 receiving yards.
He’s been vocal about his Christian faith all season and was instrumental in organizing a team-led night of worship and testimonies inside Bryant-Denny Stadium that drew an estimated crowd of 2,000 in October.
“This has been on my heart for a couple of weeks now, and I’m so glad that God has been able to make this come to fruition,” Bernard told the crowd during the October event, according to YellowHammer News. “I just want to say that tonight is all about God, all about giving glory to Him, and about just turning hearts. And just wanted to give you guys an opportunity for this campus to come out and fellowship with our brothers.”
