Anne Wilson Reveals Months-Long Battle With Identity: 'I Am Enough in Jesus'
Singer Anne Wilson opened up about a months-long struggle with her identity in a new social media post, encouraging fans to find the same hope she has discovered by grounding their identity in Christ.
The country/Christian singer is known for hits such as "My Jesus" and "Rebel," but she said success hasn’t shielded her from deeply personal struggles.
“The last six months of my life have been some of the hardest six months of my entire life,” Wilson said. “I have never struggled so much with my identity, feelings of unworthiness, feelings of brokenness, feelings of just, that I'm not enough.
“And I've been reminded through so much Scripture and through so much encouragement from friends and families and mentors that I am enough in Jesus and I am worthy in Jesus.”
Still, Wilson said, “there have been days that have just felt so impossible to get through.”
The topic isn't new for Wilson, who also explored identity in her "Hey Girl" devotional, which won a K-LOVE Fan Award. She recently released "Rebel: Following Jesus When the World Walks the Other Way."
“I just want to say that whoever's feeling that way right now, whoever's wrestling with that thought of not feeling enough or unworthy or unforgivable or just doubting who God wants you to be – that you're not alone,” she said in the video.
Wilson acknowledged that fans may assume life as a recording artist leaves little room for personal struggles, but she said that’s far from the truth.
“You might look at someone like me who travels and is on stages all the time [and assume] I have it all together. But I'm here to tell you that I don't, and we all wrestle with the same things.”
Wilson expanded on her message in the caption accompanying the video.
“I’ve been wrestling with my identity this year, and I’m so thankful for the people God has placed in my life who remind me of what’s true and point me back to Jesus,” she wrote. “If you’ve ever struggled to believe who God says you are, I want you to know you’re not alone. Our identity isn’t found in what the world says about us, it’s found in Him. I hope this encourages you!!”
