Bear Grylls Says Christian Faith Has Fulfilled His Heart Like Nothing Else
The adventurer best known for his hit survival television series and for thriving in some of the world’s harshest environments says his Christian faith has given him strength and fulfilled his heart in a way nothing else ever could.
Bear Grylls is a British adventurer, author and television host best known for "Man vs. Wild" and "Running Wild with Bear Grylls," where he demonstrates wilderness survival skills in extreme conditions.
His newest series, Prime Video’s "The Chosen in the Wild with Bear Grylls," pairs him with the cast and crew of "The Chosen" as they take on outdoor challenges in locations such as Utah's Canyonlands, the Colorado River and New York's Adirondack Forest. Participants include Jonathan Roumie (Jesus), Paras Patel (Matthew), Elizabeth Tabish (Mary Magdalene), Noah James (Andrew), George H. Xanthis (John) and creator/director Dallas Jenkins.
The six-episode series launches Aug. 9 on Prime Video.
Grylls told Crosswalk Headlines during a panel discussion with other media members that there’s “a hunger in people around the world” for faith.
“I don't think it's something new. I think it's always there. It's a magnet in our heart, isn't it? Like we try everything else, but some keys need certain keys to fit the lock,” Grylls said.
“My Christian faith has been a really quiet, strong, empowering part of my life that's helped me through many difficult moments,” he added.
Grylls has never been shy about his Christian faith, discussing it in books such as "Soul Fuel," a 365-day devotional, and "The Greatest Story Ever Told," his retelling of the life of Jesus, as well as in interviews and public appearances.
“I think if something's part of you, you wear it on your sleeve,” Grylls added. “You don't necessarily hide it away. I'm not intentionally hiding it or showing it. It just sort of becomes part of who you are and part of what helps you – and I think also when you're outdoors with people, you talk about this stuff much more easily.
“I don't get asked about my faith necessarily on a chat show in two minutes, but you go and climb a mountain with someone and watch the sunset – you probably all experience it. You chat about stuff, the real stuff in life. It's not just faith, but it's all the stuff that's connected to that – relationships and dreams and goals and attitudes and our values and all of that.”
