Bible Movie ‘David’ Soars to No. 1 on Netflix

A Bible-based film about a boy who courageously stood for God is climbing the Netflix charts.
The animated movie David soared to No. 1 on Netflix over the weekend and remained in the Top 5 days later, underscoring the broad appeal of inspiring, faith-based stories. The Angel Studios movie follows the journey of David from shepherd boy to giant-slayer and king, with Christian music artist Phil Wickham voicing adult David and Brandon Engman portraying him as a boy.
David surged to No. 1 ahead of such films as Bee Movie, GOAT, Passengers, and Creed III.
“I believe the DAVID movie is going to be a timeless classic, and we are so happy so many more people are discovering it for the first time,” Jordan Harmon, president of Angel Studios, wrote on X/Twitter.
“We’ve officially had a #1 movie on @PrimeVideo with Sound of Freedom and now a #1 movie on @netflix with DAVID.”
David is a musical in the tradition of The Prince of Egypt and is widely regarded as the best faith-based animated film in that genre since that classic movie hit theaters in 1998.
The film doesn't shy away from its God-centered message. Early in the movie, David makes clear where his confidence comes from, declaring, “God is my shepherd. He's who we need.”
Moments before confronting Goliath, David echoes the biblical account, proclaiming: “You come against me with sword and spear, but I come against you in the name of the God of heaven and earth. The battle is His, and he will give you into our hands.”
Wickham told Crosswalk Headlines the film offers a powerful example for children, portraying David as a young man who “stood up when men and women wouldn’t” take a stand for God. He said he hopes families embrace a story that is “full of the story of God and full of Psalms and full of hallelujah and faith and hope – and then turn on the movie later and dance around the living room while they're listening to it and they're watching it.”
“I think this movie will last decades, I think it will be something our grandkids watch.”
