Dallas Jenkins Unveils ‘The Chosen’ Season 6 Release Date, Says Season 7 Filming Is Near

The director and creator of The Chosen revealed the release dates for several upcoming projects on Friday while also announcing that filming on the final season of the hit series is only weeks away.
Dallas Jenkins revealed the news during ChosenCon, a three-day, fan-focused event in Charlotte, N.C., that gave viewers an opportunity to meet the cast and crew, ask questions, and view never-before-seen clips from upcoming episodes.
The Chosen is a multi-season television series that chronicles the life of Jesus and the men and women who followed Him.
Jenkins said Episodes 1 through 6 of Season 6 will debut this fall on Prime Video, with the season finale – as previously announced – arriving in theaters in spring 2027. Season 6 spotlights the crucifixion.
“Season 6 is the biggest season we've ever done, without a close second. It took the longest to film, by far. The visual effects, the translations, especially, [have taken] at least two to three times longer than any season we've ever done,” he told the audience.
Jenkins added that he was working on the series’ visual effects just last week. Part of Season 6 was filmed in Italy.
“Even though it's an extraordinary setting, the backdrop still has modern things that have to be painted out,” he said. “And so there's tons of shots that require visual effects, and it's just super-sized. The whole season is super-sized.”
The series’ final season, Season 7, will begin filming in less than two months, he said. It will focus on the crucifixion.
“Can you believe that? I can’t. I'm not ready. I'm still recovering from Season 6,” he added with a smile.
Jenkins made a bit of news by announcing that the crucifixion will unfold early in Season 7 before that season pivots to the opening portion of the book of Acts.
“We've got things like the ascension and all of that, that we're figuring out right now,” he said, referencing the filmmaking and special effects involved. “We're like, ‘All right, how are we going to figure out how to do that?’”
He provided updates on other projects. For example, The Chosen in the Wild with Bear Grylls – an adventure reality series starring Grylls and members of the cast – will land on Prime Video this year. Another project, the eight-episode limited series Joseph of Egypt, is in post-production and likely will be released in the first half of 2027, he said.
“It is really turning out beautifully,” he said. “We're very, very proud of it. The connection from the Old Testament to the New, the stories of Joseph and his brothers and Jacob are really an essential part of The Chosen universe that we are building.”
Meanwhile, Jenkins said he will take a break after Season 7 is finished before beginning work on two other projects: the three-season Book of Moses and The Way of the Chosen. That latter series will focus on the Apostle Paul and the events chronicled in the book of Acts.
He hinted that even more projects could be on the horizon that have not been announced.
“There's some projects in development that I can't talk about just yet, that we may or may not be working on.”
