The winning pitcher who helped Los Angeles clinch its eighth World Series title and second this decade credited the "favor of the Lord" in a nationally televised interview Wednesday after the Dodgers edged the home-standing New York Yankees 7-6. Right-hander Blake Treinen earned the win after pitching two and one-third innings, escaping jams in the sixth and eighth innings when the Yankees had runners on first and second. The 36-year-old Treinen also was the winning pitcher in the World Series opener.
The Dodgers overcame a 5-0 deficit in Wednesday's game and clinched the series four games to one.
"It's the favor of the Lord on my body," Treinen told Fox after the game. "I've been praying just to be ready and able when they need me."

Treinen enjoyed one of the best seasons of his career in 2024, finishing 7-3 with a 1.93 ERA as a reliever. He appeared in 50 games.
He recorded three saves during the postseason.
It was his fourth season with the Dodgers following stints with Washington and Oakland. He was born in Kansas and played college baseball at South Dakota State.

Fox wasn't the only platform where he discussed his faith after Wednesday's big win.
"What a blessing. All glory to my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ," Treinen told MLB Network. "... It's so great to be a part of it. Man, it's so fun. I've been telling people it's nice to finally put to bed how great of a manager Doc [Dave Roberts] is, how great of an organization the Dodgers are, how talented this team is."
Told by a reporter that the "game seems to reward you," Treinen quickly responded, "God's rewarded me. I've been very blessed."
Treinen also talked faith with SportsNet LA, which asked him who he thought of during the game's final out.
"God, honestly," he said. "... It's just so good to be here and have this platform."
