Gabby Barrett's Honest Mom Moment Goes Viral: 'I'm Tired, but I'm Grateful'
One of country music’s top female artists is going viral for an honest glimpse into the challenges of balancing motherhood and a career, recording a video from her messy kitchen as she admits she’s “tired” but ultimately “grateful” – moments before one of her children calls from another room for help.
Gabby Barrett, a nominee for Female Country Artist of the Year at multiple awards shows, posted the video Tuesday and almost immediately drew comments from fellow moms who said they could relate to her struggles.
“I am at a point right now in life where I'm just exhausted from trying to be a good wife, a good mother, a good daughter, a good sister, a good artist, a good friend, a good CEO of a business, a good … all the things,” Barrett said in the video.
“I'm just standing here looking at a table with rice all over it – and that is all over the floor as well – that I am getting ready to clean,” she said, picking up her smartphone to show viewers the mess.
“And I just had a writing session today, and I'm solo parenting today because my husband is out on a work trip for a couple of days.”
Barrett then added that she is working on a new album, and that “having three little kids is quite the task.”
“I'm tired, but I'm grateful.”
As Barrett began another sentence, one of her children could be heard calling from the other room, “Mommy!”
“And that's my cue,” she said with a smile. “But new music is coming, and real life is happening.”
Barrett’s fans filled the comments with encouragement.
“This is so real,” one wrote.
“I’m in the same stage with littles,” another wrote.
“You are allowed to have feelings like the rest of us women /moms/wives, you are allowed to be overwhelmed, just bc you are famous doesn’t negate that you are human! We are cheering you on girl,” another wrote.
Barrett is one of the more outspoken Christians in country music, often penning songs about her faith and sharing faith-filled messages with fans. Her Instagram bio reads: “Follower of Christ.”
Her new song, Every Minute Of It, continues that theme, with a chorus about surrendering her plans to God: “Funny how it always happens; you make plans then you hear God laughing; tired of holding on to what I thought I wanted; I’m letting go and loving every minute of it.”
