Giants' Jameis Winston Quotes James 1 after Tough Loss: 'We Have to Continue to Endure'

The New York Giants suffered a gut-wrenching overtime loss Sunday, but their quarterback said the setback offers valuable lessons – pointing to a Bible verse about trials and perseverance.
Quarterback Jameis Winston completed 18 of 36 passes for 366 yards and two touchdowns and even caught a TD pass to help his team build a 27-17 lead, but watched as Detroit clawed back in the fourth and then won in the extra period, 34-27.
The Giants ended the game with more yards and first downs but fell short on the scoreboard and stumbled to 2-10.
After the game, Winston referenced a quote from a mentor and told a room filled with reporters that “success is in the struggle.”
“Count it all joy when you face trials of many kinds.”

Winston then cited Scripture.
“We have to continue to endure. One of my favorite Bible verses is, ‘Count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces perseverance, and let that perseverance have its perfect work so you can be complete, lacking nothing.’” Winston said, citing James 1:2-4.
“And I think that this team is just in the season where we're enduring certain trials,” he added. “... We just have to find a way to win, and that's as simple as that. I have to do my role better. We all have a part in this, but the coaches are putting us in a great position to do so collectively – we just have to find a way, and we will.”
Winston began the season as a third-team quarterback but became a starter after Russell Wilson was demoted and Jaxson Dart suffered a concussion. Winston may be on the bench again when Dart returns – but said he’s willing to play any position to help the team, as evidenced by his 33-yard touchdown reception Sunday on a trick play.
“If I need to play tight end, I can do whatever it is that's required for this team to have success,” he said.
Winston is known as one of the NFL’s most optimistic and energetic players. He’s also one of the league’s most outspoken Christians, often referencing Scripture and prayer during interviews.
In February, Winston went viral for a clip of him leading Pat McAfee and others in prayer on The Pat McAfee Show.
Winston won the Heisman Trophy at Florida State and was drafted in 2015.
