Jessica Simpson Celebrates Christian Testimony in New For King & Country Song
Pop singer Jessica Simpson is opening up about her Christian faith as part of a collaborative song with CCM duo For King & Country that traces her career and celebrates her salvation.
The song, "My Mosaic," was released on Friday on For King & Country’s newest album, “The Most Beautiful Colors,” and uses the imagery of a mosaic to compare her life — or any life — to a work of art shaped by a master artist.
Simpson posted part of the lyrics on her Instagram page.
“Headlines never tell you how the story goes, but heaven saw the light in the depths of your soul. Yeah, heaven knows,” the lyrics say.
“When they break me; see how the pieces will shape me; see how the brokenness changed me; made me who I am; yeah, I found myself in the broken past; and my story’s told through the stained glass; all the love and the pain and the life that it took to create it; my mosaic; yeah, I know it’s not perfect; but you know it’s been worth it; my mosaic.”
The song ends with a reference to Simpson’s Christian conversion: “2023, born again in Tennessee; back to what I first believed, now I am free, finally.”
On their Instagram page, For King & Country thanked Simpson for the collaboration and said the song reflects some of the most vulnerable chapters of her life.
“When you show up to a writing session, you show up with your own lived experiences. It’s a very rare moment for us as songwriters to be trusted with helping tell someone else’s story. In ‘my mosaic’, @jessicasimpson has so courageously chosen to pull back the curtain on some of the more vulnerable chapters of her own life to let listeners in, and the result —we feel — is an anthem of hope. Nothing in your story is wasted,” the group said.
Simpson first rose to fame as a pop singer in the late 1990s before gaining wider recognition through the MTV reality series "Newlyweds: Nick & Jessica," which followed her marriage to singer Nick Lachey. She later ventured into acting and launched a fashion brand.
The song alludes to her early years in the spotlight: “Seventeen, California with a dream; trying to find a melody, a song to sing, as an offering; twenty-three, married on a TV screen; sacrificing everything for a fantasy they were promising.”
“Grateful to you, Jessica, for trusting us and inviting us in,” For King and Country wrote.
