Jets’ Justin Fields Says Bible Has Become His Daily Guide Saying ‘I’m Low-Key Addicted’

A high-profile NFL quarterback who endured a rocky start in Chicago before stints in Pittsburgh and now the New York Jets says Scripture has been his anchor as he seeks a fresh start with his new team. Justin Fields went 20-2 as a starter in college for the Ohio State Buckeyes but failed to replicate that success in the NFL, finishing 11-29 in three seasons with the Chicago Bears despite flashes of excellence. In 2022, for example, he became only the third quarterback in league history to rush for 1,000 yards in a season.
Fields was traded to Pittsburgh for the 2024 season, where he started only six games before being picked up by the Jets as a free agent. He is the team's starter.
This week, he told reporters he's only recently learned to tune out others' opinions and not let things get to him.
"I definitely had to learn that over a year," he said. "... I would kind of, you know, kind of let opinions kind of shape my opinion."
His perspective has changed in the past six months, he added.
"I'm glad I've grown out of that stage, and I'm glad that … the only approval that I need is from my teammates, my coaches, and, you know, God, ultimately."
Asked what sparked the shift in his outlook, Fields pointed to his faith.
"Me really getting closer to God -- like I said, my relationship [and] me reading the Bible every day. And if I'm being real, there's some great lines, some great wisdom that I didn't even know of."
Fields quickly added: "So I'm low-key addicted to, like, getting in my Bible each and every day, just because I learn something new every day, and I'm able to apply it in my everyday life."
"I was sleeping on reading the Bible earlier in my life, and I wish I would have started earlier," he said.
He concluded his comments by urging the assembled media to read their Bibles, too.
"I encourage y'all to go read a little bit starting [in] Proverbs, and move on from there."
