Kirk Cameron Declares ‘God Is Not Done with America’ at Historical ‘See You at the Library’
Christian actor and author Kirk Cameron has a message for the church after holding one of his children's story hours at the Library of Congress in the nation's capital -- "God is not done with America." Cameron was one of several notable Christian voices who took part in Brave Books' See You at the Library event Aug. 16 at the Library of Congress in Washington D.C., which was organized in partnership with the Department of Education's Center for Faith and held the same day that approximately 200 other See You at the Library events were held in locations across the U.S. Author Missy Robertson of Duck Dynasty also participated in the D.C. event.
Cameron and Brave Books launched the first See You at the Library in 2023 in response to being denied access by libraries nationwide to read his book about the fruit of the Spirit, As You Grow. At the time, Cameron said the pushback revealed a double standard: Libraries enthusiastically hosted drag queen story hours while resisting his request to read a faith-based children's book about biblical values.
Two years later, Cameron was reading in the nation's capital, welcomed by government officials. The Library of Congress is America's national library and research institution -- and is the largest library in the world.
Cameron told the Christian Post that the invitation was "indicative of a very exciting change in the direction of the wind."
"There is a fresh sea breeze of liberty and opportunity that is blowing across the land for families to get back to the values that made America great," Cameron told the Christian Post.
"This year, we were invited by the Trump administration and the Department of Education to come to the world's largest library, the ultimate library, the Library of Congress, to teach kids the truth about love, faith, and hope," he said.
This year, Cameron read his Brave book, Pride Comes Before the Fall, which encourages children to walk with humility.
The Library of Congress event "exceeded my hopes and expectations," he wrote on social media.
"This is what happens when faith doesn't back down," Cameron said. "Rather than begging for a seat at the cultural table, @bravebooks.us and I built a new one, and the Trump administration pulled up a chair."
Cameron noted that several years ago, he and Brave Books "were being locked out of libraries."
"How the tides are turning!"
Robertson read from her book, Because You're My Family, which teaches children about unconditional love. The book draws parallels between God's love for His children and the love of an earthly father and mother for their children.
"There's a part in here that is just like what we should say to God: Why, after our rebellion and bad attitudes and being disobedient, why do you still love us?' And it's because [we're] [His] children," she told the Christian Post. "And as a parent, I could say the same thing to my own children."
Noting that she also read from the Bible, Robertson labeled it an honor to share God's Word in a public setting. Parents, she said, must take the initiative in instilling values in their children and not rely on outside institutions.
"Start teaching them about Jesus when they're young," she said. "Keep at it. When you think it's not getting through, keep talking. As a mom of four grown children, I can confirm that those words will grow deep roots. Brave Books is a great tool to use alongside the Word of God."
Cameron expressed optimism in the future.
"I believe with all of my heart that God's not done with America and that we can be great again," he said. "Because at the end of the day, we know that our hope is not in who governs us, it's not in the laws that Congress passes, it's in the power of God working in the hearts of people."
