Mahomes Gives ‘Glory to God’ after Chiefs Advance to 3rd Straight Super Bowl

The quarterback who guided Kansas City to its third straight Super Bowl credited his faith in God during post-game comments on CBS, telling a national audience Sunday that "none of this is possible" without the Lord. Patrick Mahomes completed 18 of 26 passes for 245 yards and scored three touchdowns, helping the Chiefs rally from a 22-21 third-quarter deficit to a 32-29 victory in the AFC Championship. Mahomes led Kansas City on a late fourth-quarter drive to set up the go-ahead field goal and then completed a pass in the final seconds to help seal the game.
The Chiefs advanced to face the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl 59.
Kansas City has claimed victory in the last two Super Bowls and is aiming for a historic third consecutive championship -- a feat no team has ever achieved.
Super Bowl 59 will take place Feb. 9 in New Orleans.
"First off, I want to give all glory to God. Without Him, none of this is possible, and I truly mean that," Mahomes said. "I'm just so proud of my teammates and how they responded. That was a great football team. I'm just lost for words. I'm excited for New Orleans."
Sunday's victory wasn't easy. The Chiefs trailed twice and could have lost if not for a defensive stop in the final two minutes.
"I think I've always said it's not about one guy, it's not about a couple guys. It's about the whole entire team," Mahomes said. "And when we needed the defense to get stops, they got stops. The offense made plays. That's why we're so special, because it's a team effort and it's a team football game."

Mahomes was drafted out of Texas Tech in 2017 and quickly became one of the league's preeminent quarterbacks. He has led Kansas City to five Super Bowls and has entered the consideration as the NFL's best-ever quarterback. He is a six-time Pro Bowler and two-time MVP. He has had 23 career game-winning drives.
"My Christian faith plays a role in everything that I do. I always ask God to lead me in the right direction and let me be who I am for His Name," Mahomes said in 2023. "So it has a role in everything that I do. And obviously, we'll be on a huge stage in the Super Bowl that He's given me, and I want to make sure I'm glorifying Him while I do it."
