The quarterback whose strong start with the Carolina Panthers has sparked “MVP” chants is also drawing attention for his compassion—bowing his head to pray for injured opponents in moments that have gone viral.
Bryce Young leads the NFL in passing yards per game (309) and has thrown 11 touchdown passes against just two interceptions for the Panthers, who sit atop the NFC South at 3-2 following Sunday’s 25-14 victory over Philadelphia.
“First and foremost, all glory to God — I'm nothing without my Lord and Savior,” he told CBS after the win.
Young’s performance —he completed 20 of 39 passes for 281 yards and two touchdowns —sparked “MVP” chants from Carolina fans who had made the trip to Philadelphia. But a moment of compassion during the game drew widespread attention on social media when, walking back to the huddle, Young noticed an injured Eagles player being tended to by trainers. He stopped, bowed his head and prayed for several seconds.
“Bryce Young IMMEDIATELY praying for another player is just another reason you will never see me speak ill of this man. True class,” one person wrote on X/Twitter.
It wasn’t the first time Young had stopped mid-game to pray. A video from 2024, in another game against the Eagles, shows Young in a nearly identical pose following an opponent’s injury.
Young wasn’t asked about his viral prayers on Sunday. Instead, he used his postgame interview to credit his teammates for the victory.
“It was just relying on my teammates, relying on my guys,” he told CBS. “We knew it was going to be a challenge, and I'm so proud of the way that we fought. It wasn't always the prettiest, it wasn't always the cleanest. We have a ton to clean up, but just being able to finish on our terms … I'm so proud of the guys.”
Young and the Panthers are trying to build on last season’s division title and playoff appearance, which ended with a first-round loss.
“It's a week-by-week mentality,” Young said. “Right now, it's great. We're going to celebrate this. We're grateful for all wins, and then it's going to be time to turn the page. We know what we have, but again, there's so much work to be done —we're just going to keep our head down and keep grinding.”
