Pastor Mike Todd Says the Bible Can Fix What’s Broken in Modern Relationships

The pastor whose book inspired a new Prime Video movie says Scripture holds the answers to building strong, lasting relationships.
Mike Todd is the pastor of Transformation Church in Tulsa, Okla., and the author of the New York Times bestseller Relationship Goals, which grew out of his sermon series on the Bible’s blueprint for love, marriage, and family. A new Prime Video romantic comedy, also titled Relationship Goals (PG-13), was inspired by the book and follows a TV producer on the verge of making history as the first woman to run New York’s top morning show – until her ex steps in to compete for the same position. DeVon Franklin (Breakthrough, Jesus Revolution) produced it.
“Just take a glance on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter or anything – and you can see that there is a pervasive culture of toxicity in relationships,” Todd told Crosswalk Headlines. “There are principles that are being shared that have no foundation. I counsel and pray for a lot of people who are hurt, and the primary reason is because of some relational failure.”
Todd recounted a list of painful consequences from relationship failures, including unwanted pregnancies, broken marriages, and failed businesses. Too many people enter relationships without a moral compass, he said.
“Get your relationship right with God, get your relationship right with yourself, and then you can connect your relationship with others,” Todd said. “If you did it in priority, it would transform your entire life. And I've seen that happen for me.”
The desire for a relationship, he said, is God-given.
“The truth of the matter is, when everybody goes home at night, what they really want is to be cared for,” he said. “What they really want is to be loved and known deeply. What they really want is somebody to care that they're alive – and they want a relationship.
“It's the fabric of how God created us, and we're trying to get people back to that.”
Relationship Goals is rated PG-13 for suggestive material and language.
