Tauren Wells Pauses Concert to Offer Powerful Prayer for Crowder after Injury

Fans at a concert on Friday saw Christian singer Tauren Wells do more than just sing and dance -- they also watched him halt the show to pray for fellow artist Crowder, who is recovering from a recent leg injury. Wells, who was filling in for Crowder at the Shenandoah County Fair in Virginia, admitted afterward that he nearly kept the prayer private, but sensed God leading him to speak out.

“I almost didn’t do this for fear of being misunderstood -- but when God puts something on our hearts, the only answer is yes,” Wells said on Instagram. “What an honor it is to come before God on behalf of the people we love. If you’re reading this, would you pray for @crowder’s rapid healing with us?”

David Crowder broke his leg one month ago and underwent emergency surgery where plates and screws were inserted, he said at the time.

The Shenandoah County Fair announced Aug. 5 that Crowder had been replaced with Wells.

Wells posted the prayer on social media and then tagged Crowder, who responded with gratitude.

“My brother! You are beyond kind! I appreciate you so much for covering for me and leading so well,” Crowder wrote. “You are a gift to the people of God, friend. I receive it, in Jesus' name!! Amen!”

Wells urged fans in attendance at the concert to pray with him.

“I thought it would be so encouraging to Crowder if we all pray for him and let him know that this family out here at the Shenandoah County Fair made some space to bless our brother,” Wells told the crowd.

“Would you mind if we did that together?” he asked to applause. “Crowder, this is for you, my brother.”

Wells then turned to the camera, speaking directly to Crowder.

“Jesus, we come before you, right now, standing in the gap for our friend, David,” Wells said, in part. “God, I pray that You would move into the place where he is right now by Your presence, by Your Spirit. I pray that You would touch him supernaturally in his body. Lord, I pray that You would heal his leg. Lord, that You would accelerate the healing, that doctors would be astonished, and that the world would be made aware that You are alive and that You do miracles. … Lord, I pray that You would comfort our brother. Lord, that You would send resources and supernatural opportunities into his life from this circumstance.”

It wasn’t the first time Wells paused a concert to pray for a fellow artist. In late July, he led fans at the Ohio State Fair in prayer for Forrest Frank, who had broken his back. Frank later posted a video thanking Wells for the gesture and seemed on the verge of tears.
