Texas TV Meteorologist Prays Live During Storm: 'God, Your Sovereignty Is What We Lean into'
As veteran meteorologist Bill Taylor watched devastating storms unleash flooding across the Texas Hill Country last week, he did more than deliver the forecast – he paused to pray live on the air.
The San Antonio KENS 5 meteorologist was standing in front of the radar map Wednesday evening, warning viewers about rapidly rising floodwaters, when he realized the storm was bearing down on a busy highway filled with motorists.
So Taylor, who has been with the station since 1996, paused his forecast to pray. Relevant posted a video of the moment.
“You look at the time of day, and there are just a lot of people that will be traveling in this area, traveling home for the evening, traveling to work,” Taylor said as he cited names of the towns, including St. Hedwig and China Grove. The storm would be passing “right over Highway 87, right at [Highway] 1604, number of motorists here.”
“So, Lord, I pray for protection,” Taylor began. “God, your sovereignty is what we lean into in moments like this – that drivers stay aware, stay alert, that you give them wisdom. Bless these drivers with wisdom. Keep them safe. Put angels around them of protection as they travel. Thank you, Lord.”
The meteorologist then seamlessly continued his forecast.
“We’ve just got to get you home safely,” he told viewers. “This will be lasting for another 30 minutes at least, it looks like.”
Taylor’s moment of public faith didn’t go unnoticed. On his Instagram page, viewers thanked him for his boldness.
“As you were praying today, I actually ‘stopped and listened’ ....thank you,” one person wrote.
“I thank the Lord for your prayers while on the air,” another person wrote. “You have no idea how many people appreciate your courage to pray openly while at work, in the middle of the storm! Thank you.”
One viewer said her husband is a truck driver – and that prayer calms her nerves during dangerous conditions.
“Whenever the weather is bad, we tune into your program," the viewer wrote. “We pray with you and for the people of our community. It literally gives us ‘peace through the storm’ ! Just wanted you to know the impact you have had in our household. May God bless you and keep you always!”
