‘The Chosen’ Actors Tease Season 6: ‘You Don’t Even Get a Moment to Breathe’

The Chosen season 6
Two actors who play disciples on The Chosen are giving fans a preview of Season 6, saying it will be unlike any previous season as the disciples struggle to make sense of the chaos that follows Jesus’ arrest.
Paras Patel portrays Matthew, a tax collector who leaves his post to follow Jesus, while George H. Xanthis plays John, a fisherman who becomes one of Jesus’ closest disciples. Both actors have been with The Chosen since its first season.
Season 6, which spotlights the crucifixion, debuts on Prime Video Nov. 15.
Xanthis said the season captures the “frenzy and chaos that would have ensued in that 24 hours between Jesus’ arrest and His crucifixion.”
“You don't even get a moment to breathe,” he said.
Season 6 builds toward Jesus’ crucifixion over six streaming episodes before concluding with a feature-length finale, The Chosen: Crucifixion, that opens in theaters March 12, 2027. Outside of a handful of characters and key moments -- Peter’s denial, for example -- the Bible doesn’t provide many details about the disciples after Jesus’ arrest, although it does provide clues, saying they fled.
Xanthis said the season is filled with suspense.
“Season 6 is that moment in time -- it’s those 24 hours,” Xanthis said. “It's what's happening -- are they going to arrest him? [Then] he's arrested, he's getting sent to Pilate, and it is just frenetic. And there's so much in this season and the film that you wouldn't even think of -- things that the writers have done so much research, historical research, to see how things would have happened. So I would say it's that chaos and that frenzy.”
Patel said Season 6 puts viewers in the disciples’ shoes as they go into hiding and struggle to understand what is happening.
“I would say what's unique about Season 6 and the way The Chosen is doing that is that you are going to see a perspective from the disciples' point of view, and what they must have felt and gone through,” Patel said.
“Let me tell you, it is pure chaos. The disciples themselves are being hunted and they're being sought after. So everyone is hiding.”
Patel said he hopes the season inspires viewers.
“I want it to motivate you, but I want you to learn from what happens between the disciples and how they get back together, get back on page, because it's not always easy when we are thrown into something chaotic.
“... And so it's just a beautiful message amidst the darkness that is happening. So I'm really excited for you all to see what we really put our heart into.”
