‘The Chosen’ Enters Its Final Week of Filming Ever as Cast Members Say Goodbyes
The landmark television series that transformed faith-based entertainment and captivated millions of fans worldwide is entering its final week of filming.
Creator and director Dallas Jenkins confirmed Sunday that The Chosen has only four days of filming remaining on its seventh and final season, meaning the cast and crew who became close friends behind the scenes —and beloved figures to fans across America and around the globe — will soon call it a wrap.
“We're going to be done this coming week — in four days. It will be the last day of filming of 'The Chosen,'” he said Sunday night during a livestream for fans.
“Are you sad or are you happy?” he asked someone off-camera, before hearing an “I’m sad.”
“I’m happy,” Jenkins said to laughter, adding that “528 days of filming over the last eight years will be coming to a close.”
The end of filming doesn’t mean "The Chosen" is going away anytime soon, though. Season 6, which depicts the crucifixion, will begin releasing in November, while the first episode of Season 7, centered on the resurrection, won’t arrive until March 2028.
Fans of "The Chosen" have enjoyed an unusually close connection to the series and its production over the years, thanks to Jenkins’ frequent social media updates and regular livestreams, where he has taken viewers behind the scenes while announcing new projects, products and events.
Just last week, the series’ most famous face —Jonathan Roumie, who portrays Jesus — posted a video on Instagram saying his time on set was complete.
“If you are seeing this video, then I have officially filmed my very last scene ever on 'The Chosen,'” Roumie said with a smile. “Stay tuned.”
Jenkins wrote on Roumie’s page: “You left everything on the floor. And we’re grateful.”
Other actors, including Jordan Walker Ross (Little James), posted similar messages for fans.
Although the flagship series is nearing its conclusion, Jenkins has made clear that "The Chosen" universe will continue to expand through its production company, 5&2 Studios. Upcoming projects include the eight-episode limited series "Joseph of Egypt," the three-season "Book of Moses" and "The Way of the Chosen," which will chronicle the events from the Book of Acts.
Jenkins teased during the fan-focused ChosenCon in February that additional projects are being considered behind the scenes.
“There's some projects in development that I can't talk about just yet, that we may or may not be working on.”
