'The Chosen' Unveils Emotional Season 6 Trailer as Fans React: 'I'm Already in Tears'
Fans of "The Chosen" got their first true look Sunday at a bloodied Jonathan Roumie portraying Jesus during His final hours when the Season 6 teaser trailer debuted, previewing pivotal moments from the Passion story and hinting at how the series will depict them.
Although fans have long known that Season 6 would focus on the crucifixion, until Sunday, they had seen only brief glimpses of the story – and no footage. The only official preview had been a still image of Roumie, carrying the cross, released by the studio in early April.
Season 6 begins streaming on Prime Video Nov. 15. The season finale – officially called "The Chosen: Crucifixion" – will be released in theaters Spring 2027.
“I'm already in tears and it's just the thumbnail,” a fan wrote on the series’ YouTube page, below the trailer.
“I cried for a while and prayed afterward,” another fan wrote.
“I don’t know if my heart or emotions are gonna be ready, even though I know what happens,” still another wrote.
The 90-second trailer opens with a bloodied Jesus wearing a crown of thorns and a robe draped over His shoulders. Mother Mary looks into His eyes and softly says, “My boy,” while a crowd gathered in the background suggests He is on the road to the cross.
The trailer then shifts through a series of scenes from Jesus’ final hours: Roman soldiers weaving a crown of thorns; Jesus being led away from the Garden of Gethsemane as He looks back at Judas; Pontius Pilate addressing a large crowd while Mary Magdalene watches; Jesus praying to the Father prior to His scourging; and the disciples huddled together in fear. Other brief shots include a hammer driving nails into the cross, the noose Judas used to hang himself and blood pooling at the foot of the cross. The trailer concludes with Jesus’ words from the cross: “Father, forgive them!”
"The Chosen" is the hit multi-season television series chronicling the life and ministry of Jesus and His impact on those who followed Him. The first five seasons are available on Prime Video and in "The Chosen" app. Season 7, the series’ final installment, will depict Jesus’ resurrection and the events that follow.
