U.S. Strikes Iranian Nuclear Sites as Trump Warns ‘Pursue Peace or Face More Attacks’

The United States military struck three nuclear sites in Iran Saturday under the orders of President Trump, capping a week-long debate within the White House over whether to inject America into a war Israel started nine days earlier. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had urged American involvement, arguing only the U.S. had the bunker-busting bombs needed to destroy one specific nuclear site -- Fordow -- buried deep within a mountain.

The war's aim is to prevent Iran -- one of the world's top state sponsors of terrorism -- from obtaining a nuclear bomb. Unlike other countries in the region, Iran does not recognize Israel's right to exist.

Trump addressed the nation on Saturday night, describing the attack as "massive precision strikes on the three key nuclear facilities" in Iran.

"Our objective was the destruction of Iran's nuclear enrichment capacity and a stop to the nuclear threat posed by the world's number one state sponsor of terror," Trump said. "Tonight, I can report to the world that the strikes were a spectacular military success. Iran's key nuclear enrichment facilities have been completely and totally obliterated.

"Iran, the bully of the Middle East, must now make peace. If they do not, future attacks will be far greater and a lot easier."

Trump broke the news of the attack on his Truth Social account, writing, "A full payload of BOMBS was dropped on the primary site, Fordow. All planes are safely on their way home. Congratulations to our great American Warriors. There is not another military in the World that could have done this. NOW IS THE TIME FOR PEACE!"

In his address to the nation, Trump doubled down on the need for Iran to abandon its nuclear ambitions.

"For 40 years, Iran has been saying, 'Death to America, death to Israel.' They have been killing our people, blowing off their arms, blowing off their legs, with roadside bombs. That was their specialty," Trump said. "... We've gone a long way to erasing this horrible threat to Israel."

Trump also warned Iran that more strikes are imminent if they don't stand down and pursue peace.

"There will be either peace or there will be tragedy for Iran, far greater than we have witnessed over the last eight days," Trump said. "Remember, there are many targets left. Tonight's was the most difficult of them all, by far, and perhaps the most lethal. But if peace does not come quickly, we will go after those other targets with precision, speed, and skill."
