Wonder Project’s ‘It’s Not Like That’ Delivers Compassion, Grace and Faith, Actors Say

A pair of lead actors in the new Wonder Project series It’s Not Like That say the project is filled with compassion, grace and faith – and delivers exactly the kind of drama families are looking for.

It’s Not Like That launches on Amazon’s Wonder Project subscription channel Jan. 25 and follows a widowed pastor raising three children and a newly divorced mother of two as they navigate single parenthood, faith, and the complications of their longtime friendship – and whether it could become something more.

“I just think it's a really important time in life to have a show like this,” actor J.R. Ramirez (Manifest, Power) told a panel of faith media members. “I don't think there's anything out there [like it] right now. And to be able to sit down with the whole family and take in something like this right now is really an important time for it to be out there.”

Wonder Project is a faith-centric subscription channel that offers titles “that inspire hope and restore faith,” according to its website, and is home to House of David, the hit series about the biblical king.

It’s Not Like That also stars Scott Foley (Felicity, Scandal) and Erinn Hayes (Guys With Kids, The Goldbergs).

The series’ central theme, Ramirez said, is compassion.

“We are so quick to kind of judge people that we see, or that we meet, and we really – at the end of the day – have no idea what they're battling, they're dealing with,” he said, referencing society at large.

The Wonder Project series, he added, shows characters who “fall down and continue to get up” and how their “faith is holding them together.”

“I think it's done in such a beautifully relatable way,” Ramirez said.

Foley, who portrays the pastor, said grace permeates the series, adding that viewers will see characters “caring about one another and for one another.”

“Our show,” Foley said, “does a very good job, intentionally, of leading with grace.”

It’s Not Like That is an eight-episode series. The first two episodes debut Jan. 25, with subsequent episodes releasing each week thereafter.
