9 World Series Players Who Boldly Love Jesus

The Milwaukee Brewers and Tampa Bay Rays are Major League Baseball’s two best teams, but their rosters also include athletes who openly credit their faith in Christ as the foundation of their peace and purpose.

The teams are battling for the World Series title, which would be the first in either franchise’s history. Will Dawson of CBN Sports recently spoke with several players on both teams about how their faith in Christ shapes their lives on and off the field.

Here are nine Christian players in the World Series who aren’t shy about sharing their faith.

Milwaukee Brewers world series dug out

Brice Turang

Second baseman and shortstop, Milwaukee.

Turang is a two-time Gold Glove winner and is in his fourth year in Major League Baseball, all with the Brewers.

“The highs and lows of life -- and just being able to love Him every day, and the amount of grace and forgiveness that He gives us. I mean -- I wouldn't be here without Him,” Turang told CBN Sports.

Dustin May

Right-handed starting pitcher, Milwaukee.

May is in his seventh year in the league, but has seen his career be interrupted by major elbow surgeries and a life-threatening esophageal tear that required emergency surgery in 2024. He was traded to the Brewers from St. Louis this season.

“My faith with the Lord has grown a lot over the past couple of years, just because I feel like I've had to put so much more on His plate, and He's delivered in every moment,” May said. “Being able to, for one, keep a jersey on my back and give me the ability to come back year in and year out, and to be able to be here with my wife -- [who’s] been there by my side and seen the lows that I've been in. It's definitely incredible to have both of them in my corner.”

Aaron Ashby

Left-handed reliever, Milwaukee.

Ashby is in his fifth major league season -- all with the Brewers -- and has played a key role in Milwaukee’s postseason run.

“The amount of peace that I didn't think I would feel that I do feel has been overwhelming and undeniable,” he said of his faith in Christ, “and so to have that kind of cornerstone foundation for myself has been probably the most important thing this postseason.”

Garrett Mitchell

Centerfielder, Milwaukee.

Mitchell was drafted by Milwaukee and is in his fifth year in the league. He battles type 1 Diabetes, and said he considers it a gift from God.

“Not that mine's any more special than anyone else's -- I think we all go through challenges in life that shows up in a lot of different ways,” he told CBN Sports. “It's mental, it's physical. You know, for me, my journey is just continuing to keep my head up and continue to persevere through diabetes, through injuries. So for me, I just know that God has a plan and He gives challenges to His warriors. … He's my Lord and Savior, man. He's who I can go to through the good and the bad and the indifferent, and just have conversations with -- and more than anything, the peace that I get from it.”

Tampa Bay Rays World Series 2026, October 27 game win

Tyler Wells

Right-handed relief pitcher, Tampa Bay.

In his sixth year in the league, Wells was traded from Baltimore to Tampa this season and has been a key in the Rays’ march to the World Series.

“I think it's one of those things that allows us to really kind of see where and why He's working in the way that He is working,” Wells told CBN Sports, referencing his faith. “... That's kind of a testament in my life as well. With all the hardships that I've had, it's shaped me into the man that I am today. And I really just try to kind of look for the good and look for the blessings that He's given us throughout this whole journey.”

Cam Booser

Left-handed relief pitcher, Tampa Bay.

Booser is a Rays relief pitcher who battled alcohol addiction before returning to baseball. He credits faith in Christ for his recovery.

“Through his grace and his mercy, I'm able to be here today, not just playing ball, but alive,” Booser told CBN Sports. “And so to have this opportunity is an unbelievable blessing. I'm incredibly grateful to my Lord and Savior for saving my life. I'm incredibly grateful to my family for never giving up on me. I wouldn't be able to have this opportunity if they didn't support me. Through his grace and his mercy, I'm able to be here today, doing what I love.”

Drew Rasmussen

Right-handed starting pitcher, Tampa Bay.

A two-time All-Star, Rasmussen is in his sixth year with the Rays but seventh in the league.

“He's definitely shown me favor, and I don't know why,” Rasmussen said of Christ. “I mean, [I am] just truly blessed every single day, and just [to] have the opportunity to do what it is I love to do -- and you just hope that you can do it to the best of your abilities to glorify Him.”

Tampa Bap Rays Palacios and other teammates on the field world series 2026 October 27

Jonny DeLuca

Outfielder, Tampa Bay.

DeLuca is in his fourth year in Major League Baseball and his third with the Rays.

“It’s such a blessing to be here, and I owe it all to Him,” DeLuca said. “I'm trying to give glory to Him as I play. Yeah, He's been a foundational part, just having my identity be rooted to Jesus. This baseball game is super fun and it's rewarding -- but it's a very bad god, and it's going to disappoint you every time. So, being able to put my faith and trust in Jesus is -- it gives me a lot of peace. And yeah, I'm just very blessed and thankful.”

Richie Palacios

Second baseman and outfielder, Tampa Bay.

Palacios, who is in his fifth year in the league and third with the Rays, is known in the clubhouse for his joy and outgoing personality.

“We all struggle with things, but to know that my faith is in God, He always has my back, and to be able to affect people positively and share the Word -- I hope they see that every time I step on the field,” Palacios said. “I play with the joy of the Lord. You know, I'm always happy. Everyone's always asking me, ‘Why are you so happy when you play? Is it because you love baseball?’ Yeah, I do love baseball, but it's because of the joy the Lord is within me. So that's way more important than anything else.”
