A 12-year-old turns compassion into action, donating nearly 30,000 diapers to families in need. When a U-Haul filled with diapers arrived at Nourish Phoenix in Phoenix, Arizona, the generosity behind that delivery had a surprisingly young face.

Her name is Sloan. And this enormous gift began with something she noticed when she was just seven years old. While volunteering at the food and clothing bank, Sloan spotted an empty section of shelving. She asked what belonged there.

Diapers, she learned. Families requested them so often that the supply had already run out.

For a parent stretching every dollar, an empty diaper shelf can mean one more worry to take home. Sloan saw a need and decided she could help fill it.

Sloan’s Diaper Drive Grows Into Thousands of Donations

That was the beginning of Sloan’s Diaper Drive. Five annual drives later, her compassion has grown into something big enough to require a moving truck.

For her latest collection, Sloan set a goal of 22,500 diapers. Friends, family, and other supporters helped her pass it. By the end, she had gathered about 30,000 disposable diapers for Nourish Phoenix.

The donations filled her house until there was barely room to walk around.

What a wonderful problem to have: so much kindness that you have to make a path through it.

“If we have the ability to give someone something that they might not have or need, it’s really important to do that,” Sloan said.

Her words are simple. Her follow-through is extraordinary.

Every package delivered means practical help for a family. A baby has something essential. A parent has one less expense competing with groceries and other necessities. And a shelf that once stood empty has something to offer again.

Her Compassion Shows the Power of Simply Noticing a Need

Sloan’s story is a beautiful reminder that loving our neighbors begins with noticing what they need. Jesus calls us to that kind of love, the kind that sees a weary parent and asks, “What can I do to help?” Sometimes the answer is a meal, a listening ear, or a package of diapers that makes tomorrow feel a little less overwhelming.

Sloan was only seven when she noticed that empty shelf. She didn’t need to have everything figured out to begin helping.

Now, at 12, she’s reminding the rest of us that we can begin, too. May God give us eyes to notice, hearts that stay tender, and the willingness to turn our concern into care.
