A Decade After Wedding Ring Vanished in Lake, Young Niece Spots It Shimmering

On a sunny day on Lake Belle Taine in Minnesota, a little girl found a lost wedding ring that belonged to her uncle. Stephen Meyers had lost it ten years earlier while swimming in the lake with his son. He and his family have looked for it many times, and he’s so thankful that his niece finally found it.

His family has a cabin near the lake, so he’s had the opportunity to look for it every time he’s visited.

His mother-in-law, Malana Johansen, even said they’ve dredged the sand and borrowed a large magnet to locate it. But then his 9-year-old niece, Harper, saw it shining in the shallow water when she was standing on the shore.

“She just picked it up and said, ‘There’s a ring!’” Malana said. “The lake has gone down probably about 30 feet since last fall [due to drought conditions]. … It was still in the water, but she didn’t really have to go in the lake to reach it. It was just there.”

A Meaningful Find After a Hard Year

After ten years, the wedding ring still looked to be in great shape. Stephen, glad to have his old ring back, now wears it with the newer one he bought years ago.

Harper was proud and happy to have found the ring after a hard year. She and her family lost their home last year during the California wildfires.

Malana, who is also the girl’s grandmother, said she thinks Harper could have a summer job finding things for people. It would give her something exciting to do.

Woman in Neighboring State Found Her Missing Ring of Ten Years a Month Earlier

In June of this year, a Michigan woman found her lost engagement ring, also missing for ten years. She had lost it in a spa toilet, and she and the owner put on rubber gloves to fish it out, but had no luck.

A plumbing company was on an emergency call when they found it and were able to track her down through social media. The woman, Carol Oram, had been married to her husband for 50 years and was brought to tears when she put it on again.

It's so sweet when something like a lost wedding ring is found after being missing for so long. Clearly, like Carol is to her husband, Stephen is devoted to his wife and cherishes what the ring means—lifelong commitment and love.
