She Was Going to Miss Prom after Breaking Her Back at a Trampoline Park, the Hospital Had Other Plans

18-year-old Ella broke her back after attempting to do a roundoff back handspring back flip and ended up landing on her head. After this traumatic injury, she had to undergo back surgery. Sadly, the time frame of this accident and the surgery occurred during prom.

Ella Was Worried She Wouldn’t Be Able to Go to Prom

Ella was afraid she wouldn’t be able to make it to prom due to her injury and surgery. However, the hospital she was staying at brought prom to her. The Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Medical Center team in Shenandoah, Texas, proved to be a true gift to Ella.

The teenager was astounded by the quality of care. “I felt like I was surrounded by angels,” she said. The Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Medical Center team provided Ella with all the support she needed and ensured she didn’t miss prom. She was surrounded by her friends, family, and her boyfriend for this special, once-in-a-lifetime event.

Getting Ready for Prom

With the help of an ICU (Intensive Care Unit) nurse, Ella was able to get ready for her dance. Ella appreciated the opportunity to temporarily remove the brace for prom as she was struggling with confidence while wearing it. After being able to take off her back brace, she instantly felt more encouraged. She states, “When I was allowed to take it off, it gave me a sense of like, 'OK, this is how God meant it to be. You do look beautiful.’”

With the help of the hospital team, Ella had a remarkable prom. She found solace in God’s support and understood that her value is immeasurable in His eyes. Although she didn’t feel very beautiful while wearing her back brace, she knew God still saw her as beautiful. It just took a little bit of dressing up and getting ready to go to prom to lift her spirits once again.

On the Road to Recovery

Ella is now on the road to recovery and is eternally grateful for the Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Medical Center team. Ella reports, “Every doctor or nurse that I see now is actually surprised at how much mobility [I have] and how good I'm doing.” Her goal for the future is to become an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT). With God on her side and an excellent medical team, the sky really is the limit for Ella.

“I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful,I know that full well” Psalm 139:14
