I was surprised, but delighted, when MSNBC hired a conservative, pro-life black man to host his own show. Network TV is loaded with liberals, but with the exception of Fox News Channel, on which I appear, there are no conservatives on the major networks, at least none with their own shows.

Conservatives complain about the imbalance and bias of television news. But when they have a chance to vote with their remotes, they don't watch. Or maybe it was because the show wasn't very good. There was a lot of pontifical lecturing, which doesn't go well on TV.

Regardless of the reason, the failure of Alan Keyes' show will probably send a message to the networks that when it comes to values and virtue, conservatives are mostly talk and little action. I'm Cal Thomas in Washington.
