The Battle for the Constitution Isn’t Over

The Supreme Court has decided the Constitution means what it says, at least in the case of the Second Amendment. The Court ruled 5-4 that Americans have the right to own guns for self-defense ad hunting. It is the first time the Court has ruled on the Second Amendment

While this is welcome news to many, it ought to concern us the vote was 5-4, with the sometimes liberal, sometimes sensible Justice Kennedy voting on the right side this time.

There continue to be many threats to our liberties: large and ever-growing government, the promise of higher taxes and a resurrection of the so-called Fairness Doctrine by Democrats in Congress. This would target conservative talk radio and if it were ever re-instated would lead station managers to cancel Rush Limbaugh and other conservative talk show hosts because liberals would constantly complain their views aren’t heard and the station managers could not stand the hassle.

So, let’s rejoice in the upholding of the Second Amendment, but let’s be under no illusion that the battle for the Constitution is over.
