When wounded it can be very tempting to take matters into our own hands and get even. At times this may take the form of outright revenge; at other times we’re sneaky and get even in passive-aggressive ways. Scripture tells us that revenge is never ours to take. “Never pay back evil with more evil” (Romans 12:17). Consider the poor testimony of paying back evil for evil, contrasted with the witness you have when you continue to love those who have hurt you. If you do this you “heap burning coals of shame on their head” (Romans 12:20).
