Christ-in-me identity. The indwelling presence of Christ given as gift to each true follower of Jesus. This identity is pure gift; it cannot be earned.
collect. A short, written prayer inviting God’s presence, followed by a petition and blessing. Collects are part of liturgical prayer and are arranged to accompany the church year and its calendar.
Divine Office. The historically established liturgy of the hours found in Breviaries of the Catholic Church and the Anglican/Episcopal Book of Common Prayer.
false self. An identity rooted in secondary things like accomplishments, productivity, people pleasing, fame or success. The false self is always an identity that can be lost because it is a “self” we develop.
lectio divina. Approaching a text for the sake of a transforming encounter with God. Listening to Scripture to develop a friendship with Christ.
lectionary. Regular patterns of reading and praying Scriptures that correspond to the church calendar. Lectionary readings can be found in the Book of Common Prayer or in The Divine Office.
Liturgy of the Hours. An offering of prayers of praise and thanksgiving before God at fixed hours of the day. Manuals of prayer can offer a framework for these prayers.
