Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might.

--Ephesians 6:10

If you are a parent or grandparent today, I’ve got a message for you: Be strong!

As your children grow, the pressure to conform is incredible. So how can you teach them to be strong and live a life without compromise? Be strong yourself and grounded in God’s Word.

And here are four ways I believe you can instill that strength of spirit and character in your children:

Teach them the importance of choices. Instruct your children on how to say “yes” to the things that are right and “no” to those that are wrong. Every time you make the right choice, you are strengthened. And each wrong choice weakens you.

Teach them the importance of convictions. Before you can make the right decision, you must know what you believe and why you believe it. If you instill values and biblical principles in your children from a young age, they won’t flinch when they face a tough decision.

Teach them the importance of conscience. Foster a sensitivity to sin in your children. They need to know about consequences. Their conscience should be conditioned by the Word of God and by the teaching of the family.

Teach them the importance of companions. You need to know your children’s friends and monitor them. Mentor your children on how to choose the right kind of companions.

GROUND YOURSELF IN GOD’S WORD SO YOU CAN BE STRONG FOR YOUR CHILDREN.
