Time with God - June 18, 2009

Thursday 18th June

1 Samuel 1:10-20

She, greatly distressed, prayed to the LORD and wept bitterly…and the LORD remembered her.… It came about in due time, after Hannah had conceived, that she gave birth to a son; and she named him Samuel, saying, “Because I have asked him of the LORD.”

Godly mothers trust God, not their feelings!

Here’s something that is not news to any man or woman—women are emotional beings. In general, they feel things much more deeply than men, and everything in their lives is connected to their feelings. This is hugely positive, yet also brings extra struggles in times of difficulty.

In this passage, Hannah couldn’t have children. She was hugely distressed by her condition. But instead of letting her emotions rule her life, she went to the only One who could do something about her situation, and she deepened her commitment to God. God responded to her faith and in the end, her inability to have children proved the opportunity for her to see God’s miracle and trust Him even more.

Billy Graham challenges us that “both kinds of women—the too-idle and the too-busy need to take time for meditation and quiet repose in prayer to God. They need time to cultivate their souls that in turn they may cultivate their children’s lives”.

Will you take some time now to bring what’s distressing you before God?
