Recognizing the ugliness of sin

February 23, 2011

"As I live, declares the Lord GOD, this proverb shall no more be used by you in Israel. Behold, all souls are mine; the soul of the father as well as the soul of the son is mine: the soul who sins shall die."

Ezekiel 18:3-4

I once heard a minister say that people don't need to be told that they're sinners because they already know that they're sinners. Now while it's true people may realize in some way that they've sinned against God, what they don't understand is the seriousness of that sin in God's eyes.

The sobering reality is that most people don't like to talk about the judgment of God. As a matter of fact, many people today even use different words to soften the blow and to soften the full impact of the meaning of sin. They call sin an accident but God says it's an abomination. They say that sin is a blunder but God calls it blindness.

If you don't believe that sin is horrible in the sight of God, then all you need to do is to look at the cross. The cross is God's bold exclamation point on the seriousness and the cost of sin. It's the sin of all mankind that put Jesus Christ to that horrible death!

Yes, sin is very ugly. And apart from the grace that we receive through faith in Christ, it makes us ugly as well. But when Christ invades your life, that ugliness of sin is taken away and in its place is put the beautiful righteousness of God. And when that happens, we can recognize the repulsiveness of sin and flee from it each day!

FLEE FROM SIN IN YOUR LIFE AND RECOGNIZE ITS UGLINESS BY LOOKING AT THE CROSS OF CHRIST.
