I know there are many discouraged pastors of small congregations out there who feel very alone. But it is essential that you know there are many faithful brothers plugging away in the trenches just like you. Here is one example. This is an email I received the day after a recent blog post that asked, Should a pastor be discouraged about his small church?
Pastors, read and be encouraged that God knows and that you have other brothers standing in the same gap as you:
I just read your recent post to encourage small church pastors. I wanted to email you directly, rather than comment on the post or on Facebook. I really appreciate the words; they are so very timely for me and I was encouraged.
You see, I’ve been on a roller coaster of emotions and turmoil for the last few months. The church I serve has been plateaued and declining for a couple of years. I’m trying to be faithful. It’s really hard. With low numbers comes very tight budgets. I took a $500/month pay cut 2 years ago. Discouragement has been a constant companion.
If not for the men who are journeying with me to care for my soul outside my church, I would have lost my mind. I have learned much about myself and God’s grace. Not sure what God will do, but I will trust Him today… that’s all I have. And I will press into the battle and love those whom He has entrusted to me.

Press on brothers. The Lord knows and sees all, even if the world doesn’t. That’s all that matters. Stay faithful!
