Romans 6:3-5

“Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life. For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we shall certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his.”

You died with Christ!

Our union with Christ is not understood very much or very well by very many people. We say that Christ died for us, but we don’t really understand that we also died with Christ. As the Apostle Paul says in Galatians 2:20, “I have been crucified with Christ”. Paul tells the Colossians, “For you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God” (Colossians 3:3).

Because of your union with Christ, when he died, you died. The penalty for the guilt of all your sins is death. God has pronounced you guilty and passed sentence. And the sentence has already been carried out on you. You deserved to die, and you died…in Christ.

God is reassuring you that you don’t need to fear that when you die, God may reject you, or that there’s still something owed. Your account is paid in full…because you were “in Christ” when he died!
