Finding Contentment in Single Motherhood

Lori Little

As much as things change when you become a single mom, some thing remain the same. What has not changed is that you are still a woman and you are still a mother. Those are two very beautiful qualities that God has blessed you with. These two qualities will remain with you for the rest of your life.

It is important to remember that being a single mom is a season in your life right now. God may have marriage in store for you again. Or, He may ask you to be content and satisfied being His Bride for the rest of your life. Either way, what we need to focus on is what we need to be doing as a woman and single mother at this time.

The Bible says in Titus 2: 3-5 that a woman and mother should be working on her Christ-like character, not spending time gossping and drinking. She should be a positive example to her children in all that she does. According to scripture, a single mom needs to crucify her flesh of her own sexual desires and relish in God as her husband. By remaining pure, she can truly love God as her husband. This will allow her to love her children in the way they need to be loved.

Next, she should be busy taking care of her children and home with a clear understanding that God is the head of her home now. By doing this, God will not be dishonored, and a single mom will set a wonderful example of Christ to her children and others.

The greatest honor and privilege of being a woman and mother is that we are the ones responsible for creating harmony in our homes. This is a great challenge with all of the responsibilities that we have to take care of. You can create and keep the harmony and joy in your home by focusing on what you do have right now, not on what you think is missing.

What you do have as a single mother is a wonderful husband in God. You also have the gift of children. These two things are what we need to focus on and enjoy for these two things will never change.

"If a single mom will follow these 21 Principles, there is no way for her to fail. She will watch herself grow in her own strength and abilities and become more confident as the leader of her home.

The 21 Principles of a Healthy Single Mom is a practical asset for single mothers to apply specific, workable, successful guidelines to her life."
